International Law Firm in Madrid

The firm has had an international outlook from the outset. We support clients with interests in multiple jurisdictions, providing the legal certainty required for their operations.

Working across multiple jurisdictions

The firm is led by a lawyer with dual legal training (Belgian law, University of Louvain, 1971; Spanish law, University of Navarra, 1973) and international experience built up in one of the major international auditing firms before founding the firm in 1982. We have an in-depth understanding of the laws and legal cultures of Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy and, naturally, Spain.

Scope of practice

  • International commercial disputes and arbitration.
  • Inbound and outbound foreign investment.
  • International corporate structures.
  • International contracting.
  • Cross-border intellectual and industrial property.
  • Competition law and EU law.

Working languages

We handle matters in Spanish, French, English and Dutch, ensuring the highest level of technical precision for the jurisdiction and the language of each operation.

When we can help

Typical scenarios where the firm assists its clients:

  • Your foreign company needs to incorporate a subsidiary or branch in Spain.
  • A corporate transaction requires coordinated analysis between Spanish and foreign law.
  • An international contract requires solid legal judgement in drafting, negotiation or execution.
  • A cross-border commercial dispute may be resolved through international arbitration.
  • Your group is structuring inbound direct investment into Spain, or outbound investment from Spain.

Clients we typically advise

  • European companies with operations, subsidiaries or interests in Spain.
  • Spanish companies in the process of international expansion.
  • Individuals with assets, income or interests in more than one jurisdiction.
  • Correspondent firms needing local counsel in Madrid for specific matters.

When the matter reaches another country

The firm practises before the Spanish courts and authorities. When a matter requires action in another country, we make sure it is carried out and that it fits the Spanish strategy, engaging local professionals where the step requires it. You keep a single point of contact for the matter as a whole and receive one consistent view, not two opinions that then have to be reconciled.

Useful initial documents

For an initial assessment of the matter, it is helpful to have:

  • A short summary of the situation (one or two pages).
  • Identification of the parties and jurisdictions involved.
  • Relevant contractual documents (if any).
  • Notices received or deadlines in progress.

We do not request sensitive information before the matter has been formally accepted.
